Curated by Misal Adnan Yıldız, UNbecomings brings together works by Soufiane Ababri, Berk Akkaya, Hurricane Alexander, Ateş Alpar, Cibelle Cavalli Bastos, Filip Berg, Isaac Chong Wai, Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu, Pedro Gómez-Egaña, Gašper Kunšič, leo, Sārāh Mārtinus, Jonas Monka, İz Öztat & Ra, Sunny Pfalzer, Spyros Rennt, Denys Shantar, and Viron Erol Vert. 

Embarking on a provocative exploration of queer revolt, UNbecomings unfolds through a scenography that creates a liminal space between the familiar and the unknown, disorienting and reorienting the audience. By delving into the complexities of regressions, resolutions and intimacies, unbecomings emerges as a powerful and thought-provoking experience.

UNbecomings is a curatorial whisper that stirs genderfluid noises, shadows, lights, colors, despite shame, guilt, silencing and isolation. Contact with the ‘objet petit a’ might be repaired, past traumas could heal, and human cells gradually renew. Against imposed binary systems, hypocrisy, and discrimination the gender fluidity with nonconforming revolt – though at risk – is universal. 

The title of the exhibition is a poetic invitation, urging us to engage with radical feminist and queer thoughts tied to transition, transformation, alterly intelligences, and mutation. This exploration opens the door to discussions on 'UNbecoming' – an untangling of living forms and societal expectations. It is about the joy of life, self-discovery, and the fluidity of gender. Most importantly, it is about our collective happiness, where gender and roles dissolve into shared experiences of being – unbound, unconfined, and unapologetically authentic.

In this exhibition, we explore the forms, narrative politics and abstracted spaces of unbecoming: to revel in the freedom of not being, and to imagine the infinite possibilities of queer futurity – towards the state of interconnection. 

On the opening evening, the song unbecomings by Cibelle Cavalli Bastos, composed for the exhibition, will premiere. In accompaniment to the exhibition, Zilberman will publish a catalogue with essays contributed by Sārāh Mārtinus and Misal Adnan Yıldız.
