Group Show „Some of the Hole“ with Thomas Locher

05.09.2020 - 17.10.2020

Simian, Kay Fiskers Plads 8, Copenhagen, Denmark

Simian occupies 1500m2, divided over two exhibition spaces, an office and a workshop. The space is located beneath an artificially constructed lake in Ørestad - a newly built area of Copenhagen, consisting of large-scale modern architecture, in the periphery of the city. We are an independent organization supported by public and private funds, initiated and run by four artists; Markus von Platen, Jan S. Hansen, Toke Flyvholm and Christian Vindelev. Essentially, Simian is an artist-run exhibition space, with a rather large spatial capacity.

„Some Of The Hole“ explores the ‘space in between’. The gaps that exists between culture and nature, body and mind and between object, language and perception. The exhibition assembles an idiosyncratic web of connections, combining themes such as psychoanalytic theories, surrealism and fictional worldbuilding. Furthermore, the exhibition seeks to create associations to the geographical surroundings of the exhibition space; considering the recent past of Ørestad as a natural reserve on the edge of the city, a ‘terrain vague’, that metaphorically can be seen as a void containing potentials to fill, built upon and inhabit.

The works will be presented as individually charged objects and as parts, that together constitute a constructed environment. A setting where material gestures and symbolic meanings will intertwine, creating both abstract and direct connections. The exhibition title is intended to evoke questions regarding the spaces or ‘holes’ in and between things that can’t be directly addressed, though present albeit their intrinsic absence.

The exhibition is planned with specific artworks in mind and we are very interested in including a series of your engraved „furniture“ work, possibly chairs and a table, if this is possible. Otherwise we can talk about other options. We will offer transportation, insurance and detailed documentation of the installed artworks. Any sales inquiries will be forwarded to you directly or to your respective gallery. Simian will not receive any percentages from sales.

Following artists are confirmed for the exhibition: Willy Ørskov, Ghislaine Leung, Michael Kennedy Costa, Christian Vind, Penny Slinger, Thomas Locher, Marie Søndergaard Lolk, K.R.M. Mooney, Violet Dennison, Bill Jenkins, Bernadette Van-Huy, Signe Boe and Jacob Borges (Foto: Thomas Locher: „I AM NOT HERE WHERE YOU ARE YOU ARE NOT THERE WHERE I AM“, 2012).
