Anne-Lise Coste: „It’s a spray painting on plastic from the packaging of a new mattress bought by theowner of the apartment I was renting in Granada, Andalousie during the pandemictime in 2020-21.The words come directly from the street of the city where you could see numerous graffitis and within a big variety of formal and content expressions, big, very small, colorful, clumsy, political, poetical, always super emotional.The walls where literally speaking.“

Anne-Lise Coste was born near Marseille, France, in 1973. Shestudied in Marseille and in Zurich, Switzerland, after which she wasbased in New York, and now lives in Orthoux (South of France). Herdrawings and texts have the immediacy of graffiti, and allow her toexpress subjective moods mixed with political criticism and literarysentences. With a dada-influenced language and intensely lyricalimages, her work exudes irony, rebellion and emotion. She createsseemingly decorative compositions that actually offer us acatalogue of contemporary anxieties, where the immediacy of thegesture of drawing combines a strong poetic sense with anelement of social critique.
